What does AER mean?

AER means annual equivalent rate. It shows the interest you’d earn over a year if you left the money and interest in the account. Find it in your savings account details or provider’s app. Enter 3 for a rate of 3%. The starting rate here is an example, not a current account offer.

How we calculate your estimate

We convert your annual equivalent rate into an equivalent monthly rate and add interest each month. Your starting balance earns interest from the start; monthly savings are added at the end of each month. Interest remains in the account and earns further interest.

We assume the same monthly saving and interest rate for the whole period, with no withdrawals, account limits, fees or tax. We don’t adjust for inflation, so the spending power of your savings may change. Actual account terms and interest payment dates may produce different results. Figures are rounded for display.
