1. Your electricity rate
The price for each kWh of electricity—not your monthly bill.
25p/kWh is an example, not a current tariff quote. Enter your own rate including VAT.
Where do I find my unit rate?
Look in the electricity charges section of your bill or supplier app for “unit rate” or “price per kWh”. Enter the rate in pence, including VAT: for example, £0.25 per kWh means enter 25. Leave out the standing charge. If you have day and night rates, use the rate that applies when you run the appliance.
2. Your appliances
Choose an appliance, then tell us how often you use it. We’ll fill in an example power figure that you can change.

How we calculate your estimate
For running time, we multiply power in kilowatts (watts ÷ 1,000) by hours per day and days per week. For washes or cycles, we multiply kWh per cycle by the number of cycles each week. Minutes are converted to hours before calculating. We then multiply the electricity used by your unit rate.
Daily costs are averaged over seven days. Annual costs use 365 days at the same weekly pattern, and monthly costs are one twelfth of that annual estimate. We assume your rate stays the same. Rated power may overstate use for appliances that cycle on and off; use measured consumption or kWh per cycle where available. Figures are rounded for display. Appliance presets are illustrative starting points, not measurements of your appliance. The washing machine example uses 0.68 kWh per wash; programmes and temperatures change consumption.
Appliance
Usually printed on the appliance, plug label or manual. Example only—change it to match yours.
Use the energy label or manual. If it lists kWh per 100 washes, divide by 100.
Total running time across the day—not time left plugged in.
