From contracts to CityFibre connections, here’s what TalkTalk customers need to know.
BT Group has bought TalkTalk, one of the UK’s largest broadband providers, following a period of financial difficulties for the company. It’s a deal that secures services for around 1.5 million residential customers, but it does raise questions about what might come next.
The immediate message from TalkTalk is that customers can carry on using their broadband and phone services as normal for now.
Will anything change immediately?
The acquisition faces a regulatory review, during which BT and TalkTalk will continue to operate separately. TalkTalk will keep its branding, and its usual customer support channels will remain available.
Existing contracts won’t change as a result of the takeover, so there’s nothing customers need to do at this stage. If changes are planned in future, TalkTalk should contact those affected with more information.
What about customers on CityFibre?
BT’s home broadband packages run exclusively on the Openreach network, but some TalkTalk customers receive their service through CityFibre. That difference leaves BT with a decision to make about how it serves those households going forward.
BT hasn’t confirmed whether it will start to offer broadband through CityFibre or require customers to move to another network. Until those plans are made clear, the advice is to simply continue using the service as normal and look out for updates from TalkTalk.
Thinking of switching?
If you’re considering leaving TalkTalk ahead of any potential changes, it’s worth exploring what you could get elsewhere. Whether you want faster broadband, a different TV package or a lower monthly bill, comparing the options can help you decide if a switch is worthwhile.
Sky, Vodafone and Rise Fibre all offer broadband through CityFibre, although availability depends on your address. Here are some of their latest offers:
