A ton of ‘Awe-Dropping’ reveals from the tech giant.
During a live-streamed event on 9th September, hosted at their California headquarters, Apple finally unveiled their brand new flagship device, the iPhone 17 – alongside a host of other exciting tech reveals.
Here’s a round-up of all the big news, and all the juicy details.
iPhone 17 unveiled
The biggest headline is, undoubtedly, Apple’s newest flagship device. The iPhone 17 boasts some pretty impressive hardware, including a larger 6.3-inch display (compared to the 16’s 6.12-inch screen), a blazing-fast A19 chip and a much-improved 48MP Dual Fusion camera system.
Check out the spec highlights:
- 6.3-inch Super Retina XDR display with ProMotion (up to 120 Hz) and durable Ceramic Shield 2 glass
- A19 chip, offering 50% faster CPU and more than double GPU speed compared to older models
- Rear 48MP Dual Fusion camera system – main and ultrawide with macro and 2x optical-quality telephoto
- Front 18MP Center Stage camera
The base model comes with 256GB and starts at around £799. Pre-orders are available from 12th September, with devices shipping from 19th September.
iPhone 17 Pro packs a punch
If the base-model 17 doesn’t tickle your fancy, Apple also revealed the powerhouse Pro and Pro Max versions. Packing Apple’s fastest chip yet – the A19 Pro – and a vapour chamber cooling system, the Pros are capable of some serious processing power.
They also come with a Triple 48MP Fusion camera system – wide, ultrawide, telephoto with up to 8x zoom – as well as the same 18MP front camera and some great photo-editing features, making them very attractive for creators and filmmakers.
Starting at an eye-watering £1,199 with 256GB, the Pro and Pro Max are also up for pre-order on the 12th September.
iPhone Air is impossibly thin
Equally exciting was the reveal of the iPhone Air, the thinnest iPhone ever at a terrifyingly narrow 5.6mm depth. It looks like a stiff wind would break it in half, but the Air is made of tough stuff – specifically Grade 5 spacecraft titanium.
It also shares a lot of the Pro’s hardware, meaning it will deliver Pro-level performance in a razor-thin package.
Brand new accessories
Not content with revealing a trio of exciting new devices, Apple also showcased a range of new accessories and ecosystem upgrades.
- AirPods Pro 3 – The newest version of Apple’s buds have enhanced noise-cancellation, heart-rate monitoring and – amazingly – real-time translation capabilities. Priced at £219, they’ll also be released on 19th September.
- Apple Watch Series 11, Ultra 3 and SE 3 – The new generation of wearables incorporate advanced features like hypertension alerts, sleep tracking and upgraded displays. They also come equipped with 5G and satellite connectivity (in the Ultra only).
- Crossbody Strap – Apple also revealed a new range of cases and crossbody straps, which will allow users to carry their iPhones hands-free. However, these have already garnered some criticism and concerns over the risk of theft…
